We went out to the boat and my husband fixed the toilet pump for me, it was a mess. Makes me wonder how many “crews” I want to take out, even though I really liked the women. On the one hand, it’s a boat and it’s constant maintenance. On the other, I couldn’t have taken it out again unless it was fixed – it’s kind of a big deal. I’ll just have to make a laminated instruction for the back of the door, it was evident from the amount of TP that came up that no one has ever listened to my briefing.
Now it’s time to get ready for my MIA in May trip! I’ll most likely be gone for 3 weeks, that’s what I have it booked out to right now. We’ll see how I last camping a few nights, there’s one night I don’t have a place and I’ll determine whether it’s going to be a camping or a nice place night once I get through the 2 nights of camping. There’s an REI in Santa Fe, I’m bringing most of my stuff with me and I can just pick forgotten items there before I head out.
It will be an adventure for sure, I’ve never had time and the money to do anything like this before. When I graduated from college, it was all about trying to find a decent job and paying off my loans, I could forget about traveling. My son took over a month driving back from New York and slept in his truck most of the time. He’s been all over the world, he even told me where to camp that would be safe on my trip. My travels have all been with my husband and my family, except for the occasional surf trips the last few years. I’ll have to see how lonely I get, right now I’m looking forward to not catering to anyone else and doing what I want to do when I want to do it.
My mom bought me a Garmin InReach for sailing and flying, it txt’s in an emergency. One thing I found out driving from Bisbee to Las Cruces on Hwy 80 is that there’s 100 or so miles with no gas or cell phone coverage. I came into Douglas, AZ with a rental car on fumes saying no gas left on the mileage for about 5 of those miles.
I’d love to hike however many miles a day, it’s just that I don’t trust my back yet so I’ll always be relatively close to some kind of civilization. It’ll be fun (I hope). See if I like the freedom of the open road, or just freedom.
