This kitchen cabinet painting is turning into a bigger project than I imagined, still not worth $7k to have someone come in and do it. It’s just taking me awhile to prep/paint then wait for it to dry. I’m almost done with one side of just the frame, the paint sprayer came yesterday and I start spraying doors today.
Of course my work schedule is only a few hours a day. A few things I learned the first day, brush your teeth before you put those masks on!! Even after you brush your teeth, the smell lingers. I wore gloves to tape, the tape stuck to the gloves then ripped them apart. I also bought a 10 pack of rollers that won’t connect to the stupid handles, so the first day I had the rollers full of paint flying across the room.
Otherwise it’s going well, just time consuming. I picked which color in an Instagram competition. In the morning my new crown came out in a dental floss accident (brushing my teeth before the mask), then I grabbed the sample color to get a gallon of it. I didn’t trust the crown distraction leading me to possibly grabbing the wrong sample. I picked a new color that was lighter @ the paint store, now I’ll have a minty fresh kitchen.
I brought the right sample color after all, this one is way too light but I wanted to get started & it’s just going to have to be that color…I don’t care anymore!
Today is all about sanding and priming the doors in the garage. The doors have to be done one side at a time, one day at a time. It’ll take me 6 days to finish them, but by then I can finish the last coat and start tossing and/or putting away things to at least clean up that area. Then I’m going to take a break for a week before I do the other side.
This color doesn’t match counter tops, those are going to have to be replaced which wasn’t the original idea. Not sure if I’m going to paint the insides yet either? Going to see how I am with the spray gun before I decide, I haven’t used one in over 20 years.
By working on it a few hours a day it’s preventing me from just loading up the spray gun and going rouge on the whole kitchen at once while I’m crying. I have a few days to decide if I should just go back to the store and get the color I sampled for the final coat, it’s not too late. Not going to do the final coat until I decide if I like the color? It’s certainly beachy, I love that aspect of it.
